How early is too early to start collecting baseball cards?

My son Parker was born on January 15. He isn't into baseball or baseball cards just yet but that didn't stop me from buying his first pack: 2010 Topps!

I know that I am already a baseball geek and now I'm super-geek daddy too. Oh well.

His interest is minimal but he makes one excellent video background. I'll blog when I come up for air.

I say the earlier the better...My not quite yet two year old has his own cards that he refers to as "my b-ball cards". He currently enjoys shuffling them around and taking them in and out of his box.

Congratulations! Nice work dad. It's never too early to start him. I have a 15 month old and I have a box going for him with some packs and boxes in it.

When he's ready and interested it will be an awesome gift for him. If he's never ready or interested it will be an awesome gift for me!

It would have been cool if my dad had bought some cards for me on my birth year (1966). I do give him lots of credit (and thanks) for getting me interested in baseball cards in 1974 (7 years old at the time).

Yes, why not a birth-year binder?

How do you know his interest in minimal? He may just not have developed his social skills yet.

Give him a couple of months and I'm sure he would love to taste some 2010 Topps! He'll gum them right to death. If my dad had put away a set for me every year after I was born, I sure would have less cards on the ol' wantlist! Good job getting yours started early.

Great. Even the two-week-olds have 2010 cards before I do.

Cute kid.

Nice.... Start getting him a few cards now. Stick them in boxes. When he gets older, take him to Target with you and get him a pack or two. When you sit down with your cards, he'll invariably ask what you're doing. Then you'll have a card collecting rival.

When my son was 4, I started sending cards off to be autographed. He loved that, but now that he's 15...not as much.

I completed 2009 Topps Update just days after my first son was born... so I don't think there's a such thing as "too early". My son, not even two months old, has a complete set of 09 Topps, 09 Topps Update, a Derek Jeter autograph ball, and a Jeter/Griffey dual relic from 09 Sweet Spot - not a bad start!
