Ken Griffey was 25 when this picture was taken. I wonder what he had to smile about:1. He knew he would win a World Series that year.
2. He knew he would win a second World Series the next year.
3. He was a part of the "The Big Red Machine".
4. He could get from home to first base in 3.5 seconds. (Info found on the back of the card. If only this blog had a name that would make me show you the back of this card.)
5. He had a 6-year old kid who would become one of the greats of the game.
He had a lot of reasons to smile so he did. The Griffeys got the chance to play with each other in Seattle in 1990. They hit back-to-back home runs on Sept 14 of that year. It's too bad Cecil and Prince can't even share a nice tofu salad together.

I love this card. I don't have the original (but probably will one day) but I have the Topps Archives version...I think it's the same photo.
Actually, "what he had to smile about" is a great approach to smile cards.
PS Smiling AND action, all at once, are pretty tough, but Justin Upton does a lot of that in each game.
Don't know where you live, but if you're in the Cincinnati area on the weekend of May 30-31 you might want to stop by the Reds HOF and get this card signed. :)
This was a great card in a great set. My second favorite of the Seventies.The card year you got the banner from being the first.
